| Thanks for the Pom hint Btypes |
Simple. You just have to open it under water.
My old method of eating pomegranates involved mining out individual seed by seed was so labor intensive and reminded me a little bit of picking crabs-- a lot of work for a very small amount of reward.

| My pomegranate treat! This is the fruit of ONE pomegranate, obtained in just a couple minutes of work. |
They're full of fiber (we know I love my fiber!), antioxidants, and vitamins, plus they're great for your heart health!
Are you a fan of the pomegranate?
It's one of the highlights of my winter every year. It's an expensive little fruit but they are a little more affordable during the winter months. I've seen the cost of a pomagranate range from $1.99 to $3.99, depending on the season and store. Trader Joe's usually has the best deal (of course!)

I have never really eaten them on my own - usually only when someone else prepares them or they're in a restaurant meal. I should try it out!
ReplyDeleteWe just had a very in-depth conversation about poms last night after piling them on our frozen yogurt at YogurtLand...and it involved how hard they are to "harvest" on your own. They really are interesting little seeds - I should try this method.
ReplyDeleteI love them! But I hate the work to get the seeds out. I'll have to try the method you mentioned above. :)
ReplyDeleteI love them, but yes- am usually turned off by the amount of labour involved before actually eating them!
ReplyDeleteThey are way better than overpriced pom juice, plus I imagine less sugar as well.
mmmm LOVE pomegranate! sooo good and fun to eat too :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE pomegranates! I think they are probably my favorite fruit. I will have to try peeling my next one under water! Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried pomegranates before - they freak me out. There is a guy in my 'hood that has a pom tree, and he gave my husband one to eat, but we didn't. (Shame on us, I know). But I just..ugh, they freak me out, those seeds.. ick.
ReplyDeleteAre you serious, a couple of minutes? That is amazing... like you, I slave over them forever, pulling out all those tiny seeds. Thanks for the tips!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE pomegranate and this girl is a genius!!!! I want to go to the store and buy one right now just so I can try this!
ReplyDeletefunny, i'm catching up on reading your blog while drinking a pomegranate cocktail. does that count as antioxidants??
ReplyDeleteI really need to try them, I always hear how good they are but just never picked one up.
ReplyDeletenever eaten a pomegranate - I know, I'm so behind on the superfruit of the year...

ReplyDeleteEmail me if you can! SeeAliEat@gmail.com
Ok, I tried one for the first time a few weeks ago and it was really bitter! Is that normal or was my pom just jacked?! It made my mouth pucker!
ReplyDeleteI love pomegranate seeds, but the work of getting them out always deters me. They're so tasty! It's like candy, but a fruit :)
ReplyDeleteOhhh thanks for the tip! I love pomegranates but usually make SUCH a mess trying to get at the seeds that it's usually not worth the mess and effort! I can't wait to try this :-)
ReplyDeleteI love pomegranates and this is awesome!!!!
ReplyDeleteWOW, I have never heard of that -- I love pomegranates, so this is a huge time saver! I totally picked them out one by one like you:)
ReplyDeleteStoked you found my blog -- I'm following you now too!! Bummed not to be in Hawai'i anymore, but once I get settled here in Seattle, I'll probably visit often -- so my blog posts will still take you to paradise:)
Ah so busy I finally saw this post!! LOVE IT! I am so glad you found it helpful. It sounds so stupid but is really so simple, and makes life so much neater. I love poms, they are sweet, sour, nutty, and also take a while to eat so they are the perfect thing to nom on at work.
ReplyDeleteOMG - I have never figured out to eat a pomegranate and totally LOVE them. THANK you for posting this...life saver, for real.. ;)
ReplyDeleteNever knew how to eat one until now! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteso you eat the seedy things and not the fleshy part? i would never have known. now i may have to take the plunge and try it!
ReplyDeleteps: i tagged you! http://www.chasingthekenyans.com/2012/01/33-randoms.html
ooooh thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI have tried that method and definitely decreases the mess. But I still get lots of pith and gooey stuff between the seeds. Now, I just buy the arils at Whole Foods; more expensive but perfect and 1000 times less mess (I know more expensive though).
ReplyDeleteMy 4 year old LOVES pomegranate seeds. She calls them grape popcorn.
I am a fan, but don't usually get them because of the work and the mess! Those little boogers can stain you! Off to check out her site and learn something!
ReplyDeleteI love pomegranate juice, but haven't tried to deal with the real fruit. I'm glad I read your post first.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I tagged you in the 11 Things viral thing. If these annoy you, please ignore, but otherwise I'm looking forward to your answers!
