Didn't plan most of that, it just happened and was fun. No races on the agenda, so all runs at this point in time are just for my own satisfaction.
Longest run of the week:
11 great miles with Brittany and the Spring Marathon Training Team on Saturday morning

Monday (aka New Year's Day) was the RVA Fat Tire Bow-Tie Ride.
We did a three hour bike cruise around the fan district of Richmond.

I missed the detail about dressing up...oops. But of course Tappan was sporting his bowtie!
I typically do NOT have coordination at these types of sports but we all had an an epic move or two.
We proceeded to cruise over to Hollywood Cemetery, a famous cemetery that has the remains of tons of famous people including:
And many visually pleasing memorials and gravestones:
Happy New Year, Friends!!!

Tappan in action!

COULD NOT RESIST hammin' it on the Ha' Penny Stage with Btypes, my lavendar twinsie. We have no idea what this random wooden stage is doing in the middle of the field.
- president John Tyler
- president James Monroe
- president of the confederacy Jefferson Davis
- over 18,000 civil war soldiers
- six Virginia governors
- two supreme court justices
It's a beautiful cemetery with a breathtaking view of the James River:

I am a helmet nazi. I see WAY too many bad outcomes of people not wearing helmets at work in my Trauma ICU.

I love many things about this photo: Giant pyramid Cool tree shadow
I like to think that this is the mysterious "Black Dog" of Richmond. Although I think it was referring to a fond memory of a family dog... Someone even left some Kibbles and Bits for it!!
Is everyone having success with their New Year's Resolutions so far?
Well....seeing as how I haven't come up with any yet...I am either failing or passing. In typical Katherine fashion, I am late on the resolution bandwagon-- I usually prefer to make gradual changes in my life and not make any sudden unnatural changes because I'm less likely to stick to them.

Looks like the ride was a success!
ReplyDeleteAre you a Trauma/ICU nurse? Very Interesting! I did ER registration in a Lev 1 Trauma Ctr in downtown Orlando - that was very interesting. I saw lots of insane stuff. I'm also a helmet advocate for the motorcycle.. I'm always hollering for my husband to wear his helmet, even if he's just going around the block.
Richmond looks like a really cool place. All the restaurants, races and activities you do have sold me on its coolness :)
ReplyDeleteNo resolutions for me. I just make vague goals so I can't fail. I go more day by day. :)
Jena-- I can't figure out how to reply to you, your profile doesn't have your blog linked to it. But yes, to answer your question, I am a surgery trauma ICU nurse at a level 1 trauma center! So much insane stuff I can't even get my head around it. I am somehow able to emotionally myself from it since it's work, otherwise I'd go crazy.
ReplyDeleteI love that you're a helmet nazi--I'm the same way :) I have a shelf in my garage dedicated to helmets only: climbing helmet, cycling helmet, skiing helmet, etc. Everyone teases me but at least my head isn't cracked! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat pics, looks like your year is off to a great start :)
ReplyDeleteAHHH! Love Hollywood Cemetary! Such an awesome place to run! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun ride! I might try to get out on a few more bike rides this spring/summer (last year I did one - #fail) and holy miles!! great week girl, you rocked it!
ReplyDeleteP.S. love Tappan's outfit! Classic!
I want to run my first marathon-- more of a goal than a resolution. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat pics!!
My resolutions are just to be healthy and run more, I'm doing pretty great. Love the photos from your ride, it looks gorgeous and fun!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fantastic ride! This weather has been so nice for stuff like that (until today!).
ReplyDeleteNot a resolution setter, although I'm sure I should be!
Love your little picture tour of Richmond! RM and I were there in summer 2010 and ate at Sam Miller's. He still can't stop talking about the crabcakes! Looks like we'll probably be back again this summer. :) - Kristin
ReplyDeletelove the pics! looks like such a fun time...and i agree...i am currently loving running when and how much I want :) its a nice break from racing!
ReplyDeleteLooks like so much fun! Your pictures always make Richmond look so beautiful!
ReplyDelete:)
you guys are so freakin' cute
ReplyDeleteCome run the Birmingham Mercedes Marathon with me! 2.12.12. that's my resolution-- finish my first marathon ;)
ReplyDeleteHaha same thing with the helmets...sometimes when I'm at a bar/restaurant and people start playing with the candles on the table, I freak out. Don't play with fire!!
ReplyDeleteHappy new year!
Love Tappan's bowtie!
ReplyDeleteThe cemetery looks like a neat place to explore.
I am a bit of a helmet and seatbelt freak myself, I think it comes with the biz we are in. I was called in way too many times in the middle of the night to work on no seatbelt people.
So gar so good! You're so cute with your twin!
ReplyDeleteLove, love the purple sweaters! Gorgeous...I have a LuLuLemon gift card...and now I think I know what I want... :)
ReplyDeleteAww you are so cute! I am going to have to check out the J.Crew sale this weekend!!!
