Homeless Man Stole My SAG

This was a weekend of low-key goodness plus a fun 14 mile run.  It was perfect!

After working a nightshift at the hospital (7pm to 7am) on Friday night, I spent a few hours sleeping on Saturday and then did a little bike cruise with Tappan over to Maymont Park.
I love Maymont THIS much.
Maymont Park is a gorgeous hidden treasure, tucked up right next to the James River.
I'm all about the river view.
If you and I have been friends for a while, you may remember me posting about Maymont last summer.

Sunday morning was a 14 mile run at a 7:54 pace.  Ran with my girlfriend Annie, we chatted the whole time:
Highlight of the run came around mile 8 when we showed up for our SAG and it was nowhere to be found....
....and then about 0.5 miles down the road, we came across a homeless man with two reusable grocery bags full of gatorade/water (aka our SAG)!!  He had swiped it.  Oh well, he probably needed it more than us anyway.

Later Sunday afternoon, Tappan and I headed over to Perception Salon & Spa for a one hour spa pedicure with parafin dip.  This was the 2nd time in my life I've ever had a pedicure.
Tappan's legs in a little paraffin bundle!
Do you get pedicures on a regular basis?
I legit enjoyed the spa pedicure, but it's not worth the time/money for me because my feet will probably be back to baseline after just a few miles of running.
What would YOU do if a homeless man stole your SAG?
If I had been desperate (which I wasn't), I would have asked him for one of the cups and taken some gatorade.

  1. Wow- I wish I could maintain a 7:54 pace run and manage words at the same time :-P Impressive!

The poor guy who found your gatorade probably thought he'd hit the jackpot! It was nice that you let him keep it - he probably didn't have any idea that you'd stashed it there for later, he probably though someone had tossed it there or left it by accident and was long gone.

  2. Hahahah! I love that he took your stuff just because, I mean, why wouldn't he?!

I equally love that tappan went for a pedi with you! I love them-- they are like my treat to myself, especially in the summer. I actually just got one this weekend for my bday and it was glorious!

  3. i havent gotten a pedi in forrreeever!!!!!! i think it's because i got sockless in my bike shoes and the polish chips easily! i love how you and tappan went together. super cute.

thats crazy the homeless guy stole your SAG. i doubt i would have said anything to the homeless guy...i probably would have found a store nearby to buy some new supplies.

  4. And how many mani/pedis was this for Tappan? I've never had a pedi, nothing will ever fix these feet and I bare them proudly!

    1. Hahaha this was his very first. He is super open-minded and we had a groupon for it and I told him it was like a little spa massage. He didn't get any color on his toes, just a little buffing. He enjoyed it, the massage part was his favorite of course.

  5. Just found you and how funny we have a lot of similarities! I run in Richmond, I work at Maymont (ps how'd you sneak that bike in here?), and I go to Perception! What a small world. =)

    1. You work at Maymont?!!!!! Oh my gosh. I was just telling Tappan that I want to get involved with Maymont. I L O V E that place.

Haha we didn't ride our bikes while in the park, we walked them next to us the entire time. I know, we're bad, but we didn't feel safe leaving them on the bike rack because we'd forgotten to bring a lock :(

This was my first time at Perception, I had a groupon for it. Great place, it had a super relaxing atmosphere.

    2. We have a cool young professionals group called Dooley Noted that you'd probably love! They are having an auction first Friday in May - I can totally send you an invite if you'd like to come!

  6. I love pedis but have not had one in years.. I could really use one!

I was thinking of shooting for the 3:30 time too, seems reasonable and McMillan says that is about where I am at based on half marathon times. That said I am still scared to death of going out to hard and dying...like you said the first one should be more learning experience.

  7. Bummer on the stolen hydration!! I had my water stolen once, but don't know who the culprit was. In your shoes, I'd have done the same.

  8. How funny about the swiped SAG! I'd definitely let him keep it. No regular pedis for me. I have strategic callouses and such that cannot be tampered with.

    1. Hahaha yeah somehow the calluses on my feet this winter have not been bad (nothing like the ones from last summer) so I didn't feel bad about getting the little guys buffered away.

  9. Jealous of your running! I miss it SOOOO badly!

I love pedicures. My feet get so gross from running that I do treat myself to them from time to time, but certainly not regularly. If I had more disposable income, maybe I would! :)

  10. Haha I can't believe it's only the second time you've ever had a pedicure. I'm not big into getting them because I think I do a better job myself. I actually don't have feet that look like runners' feet since I use a pumice stone regularly and an exfoliating glove AND this awesome foot cream. I'll get the name for you :) Enough babbling from this girl, have a great Monday!

    1. OOh pumice stone, exfoliating glove and foot cream, sounds like a luxurious spa at home! I could get on board with that. I have a cream that's just a little too heavy for my hands/body, so that'd probably be great for my feet after a nice long shower.

  11. Nice run! I always worry about someone finding my hidden Gatorade when I do hide some. Luckily most of the time there are vendors in Central Park who I could buy more from and sometimes I will just avoid the worry of hiding my stuff...

  12. Great job on the run! I have had a few pedicures in my life but I don't have any desire to make it a regular thing.

I would have done the same thing you did and assumed the homeless man must have needed it more than I did!

  13. That run looks great! Good to hear that it was super warm in VA too!

Hilarious about getting your water and gatorade stolen, I guess I never leave anything like that on the trail (I just carry my fluids with me on a water belt). Glad you let him keep it!

And I also found Lindsey Stirling recently on youtube, she has some great songs! I also like where she shoots her videos, she has one that was shot in New Zealand, just amazing surroundings.

  14. That's so funny!

What time are you shooting for, for your next marathon? You are getting speedy(er) miss :):)

    1. I don't know what to shoot for....and I still need to sign up for a marathon!! I'll keep you posted :)

  15. I wish you could just get the foot massage part of the pedicure! I'm always ashamed of my nasty toenails.

  16. That's horrible your SAG got stolen but at least you had a good attitude about it! Super speedy runs as per usu

  17. speedy mcspeedster!! Great run, and what a pretty place to run and bike!! I am sure the homeless guy was very grateful for the treat, and it adds a little extra feeling of accomplishment I could imagine :)

  18. I love pedicures and make sure that my feet always look presentable. There are times that I avoid getting a pedicure because I am missing a toenail from running! Haha!! The homeless guy situation is a little scary. I don't think I would have said anything to him in fear of his reaction Most of the homless people seem to be pretty down to earth but I have seen some of them who look/act like they have mental disorders and I wouldn't want to mess with them. Sad situation to be in and I feel bad for them..

    1. Oh yeah I remember learning in school that a HUGE percentage of homeless people have mental health problems unfortunately....

  19. That's freakin' hilarious. A dog stole my fuel a few weeks ago - I hid my little bags of oatmeal but he found them and tore them up.

  20. Pedi: once in my life. It was with a group of moms and they could not believe I has never had one before...! I cannot spend $ on this...not worth it ..I would spend on massage though!!!!

The fuel..well at least you know it went to someone who needed it...I would have not said anything...

    ReplyDelete
  21. No way! That's crazy. I'm sure I'd just let it go and try to find some snacks somewhere else!! I loved pedis. I got them almost every week when I lived in the DR and they were cheap!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm also impressed that you can run fast AND talk. You are awesome! You did the right thing with the drinks.:) I would have definitely not asked for it back, for more than one reason.

  23. I seriously doubt I could store any SAG in NYC - it'd be swiped by someone quickly!!! At least there are bodegas/markets everywhere.

I get a pedicure about 1x/month. As you know, I have a problem with nail polish....

  24. And the weather has indeed been insane in the bay area this year! The warmest and driest winter I've ever experienced. Last year was the wettest winter ever though, so bizarre how it happens some years!

And glad you liked that triathlete video, it's just so spot on!

  25. wow, those pix are gorgeous!! glad u rocked that long run but i'd be peeved if my SAG were stolen! especially since i'd be looking forward to the refuel!! i guess the guy would need it, but still, u have the right to be mad!

that said, wow i'd love a pedicure but i dunno if i could subject someone to these feet of mine...lol

    ReplyDelete
  26. I couldn't store SAG where I live either, it would definitely get taken! Its carrying the water for me! I LOVE getting pedis! Best reward after a long run ever!

  27. You still should have made a comment to him, lol. But let him keep the Gatorade, he prob does need it.

Pedicures - I am on the fence. My feet are rough and probably need them more often, but they are also almost too beat up for the Chinese people to do right. My nails hurt whenever they try to cut/buff them from having been black at some point in their life. I do like letting my feet soak and the gentler stuff they do, and getting manicures too!

  28. that is so funny about your gatorade. i've never tried storing. i feel like in this area, gosh knows what will happen

  29. Love the pictures, especially the one of you two from behind :) Way to go on the run - great pace! I love getting pedicures, but I don't get the spa ones, I always go to the little strip mall places where they're cheap, the one you got sounds really nice!

  30. I love the looks of that park! and I'm glad Tippan got a good ride in too!

I LOVE getting pedicures. I don't go very often but now that you've reminded me I really should.

  31. Great run! And Maymont park looks gorgeous. I'm like you with pedicures... I do it occasionally when it's a gift or with friends for a special event, but then my running feet don't let it last too long.

  32. AWESOME 14 miles gorgeous girl! I LOVE that purple sweatshirt on you! I am going to get a pedicure tonight wahoo....it has been a year since my last one ha:) Hope you are having an amazing day!
