Color Me Rad 5K

Saturday was a long day of running....
12.27 miles at a 7:42 pace followed by:
The Color Me Rad 5K!
Getting leggy at the Color Me Rad 5k with my dearest Brittany!!
I picked up my bib on Friday afternoon and met the brains behind the Color Me Rad 5k.

Race morning started off innocently enough:  as much white as possible and a few scattered RAD temporary tattoos.
Clean as little newborn babies

I was pretty tired after my morning run so we ran slow and easy and just enjoyed ourselves.

As we entered the first color zone, I was getting a little nervous about inhaling all the cornstarch so I used my top as a lil' filter.
Inhaling some colored cornstarch?
Once all the colored cornstarch settled to the ground, some people were rolling around in it for some extra effect.  I wasn't quite that anxious to get rad, but it was tempting!
Neon Heaven
Later in the race, we encountered a handful of other color zones, and plastered ourselves with as much paint as possible.

And I'd say we were successful!
Tappan and me, victorious at the end of the Color Me Rad 5K!
Check out Brittany's blog for more about our
Color Me Rad experience.  She's my running twin :)
While I was standing around after the race, I realized that everything looked sort of 3D shimmery and I couldn't figure out why...until I discovered that my contact lens had been dyed blue from the colored cornstarch!!!
Color Me Rad victim:  my newly blue contact lens
Check out the bright blue contact lens around
the perimeter of my dark brown iris...now THAT is rad!!
I did have to soak in my shower for at least 15 minutes until the majority of the color came off my skin, which did make me a little nervous because I had to work that night...and my clothes probably need a 2nd or 3rd run through the washing machine to get the color out...

But all in all, it was a FABULOUS race.

Very well organized and well attended-- all the Color Me Rad races have been sold out thus far.

Thanks again to the Color Me Rad and Virginia Special Olympics folks for the free bibs for my friends and me!

Have you done Color Me Rad?  Is this sort of thing appealing to you?
This was my first Color Me Rad and I loved it even more than I'd expected to.  It was fun to do a 100% relaxed race where you don't have to focus on running fast and can just run it with your buddies.

  3. Looks like you had fun, I am impressed with what it did to your contacts! It is amazing the races they are coming up with lately that are really selling out like those color runs, mud runs, night runs. And there are never any close by. I don't know it I would do one or not, but seeing your pictures makes it more convincing to do a color run.

  9. I haven't done one but have been seeing tons of color race photos. I don't know that I want to because it sounds sticky! However, everyone seems to LOVE them so maybe I'll change my mind. :) That contact photo is fab.

  10. Looks like you had so much fun! I've never done a Color Me Rad/Color Run, but they look like everyone has a blast. I think having my contacts get dyed by the color would freak me out, though. Eep!

  12. Wow! Those pictures are crazy! It looks like you hassle a great time out there. And please tell me you don't have some sort of eye infection from the blue contact!

I'm not too interested in a race like this, but I think it would be fun to spectate and take photos of it :)

  14. Sorry - cannot understand the appeal at all here. At all. But apparently they're very popular, so I must be the weird one (who knew?). And I'd ask for my money back for my contact, lol.

  20. I did the Color Me Rad here in Virginia Beach. It was raining here, so that made it a little less rad. It took me forever to get some of the color out of my hair and skin.

  23. Ok, here's a question as a fellow contact wearer. I'm running next weekend and i'm totally afraid of trashing my eyes/contacts... Obviously the contacts were ruined, but you weren't like, GET THEM OUT OMFG... like if you have something in them? I don't care so much about replacing them, just that I don't want to be miserable.
