Mountain Biking Richmond VA

I went mountain biking for the FIRST time in my life!!  And I loved it.
Tappan fixed up his old childhood Specialized Stumpjumper mountain bike for me and I finally got to take it for a test spin with him.

We started off on the bike trails behind the Carrilon.  They were relatively technical and I felt a little nervous at times, but I hung on and just followed a line.  I surprised myself and had a lot of fun!

Afterward, we stopped off for a quick visit at the Pump House.  The pump house is one of my favorite random hidden treasure in Richmond.  It used to be an old fancy-pants dance hall, but doesn't look like it's been used in decades.

We then worked our way over to the Forest Hill Park mountain bike trail which was beautiful.
sweatin' it up in the forest, can't think of a better Friday
I caught some footage of Tappan jumping up some stairs on his mountain bike.

It'll be a long time before I catch onto this skill...
Have you ever been mountain biking?
This was my first time...Tappan goes most weekday mornings and hopefully I'll make it out to join him more often.  It's a fun combination of the calm woods and cruising--- with a twist of edginess.

  1. So great you got out and gave it a try! Looks like you've got great trails. I love mountain biking although I don't do it nearly enough. Now my son is old enough to do it and has a new bike for it, so I hope to get out more.

  2. I've never been mountain biking; There is a place called Croom here where a lot of people go that are into mountain biking. It's a hilly wooded area that's popular for trail running, mountain biking & hunting... yeah, hunting. Sounds safe, right?

I've never been mountain biking. Just doesn't seem like it would be my thing. I'd be scared i'd kill me self.

  5. There is a great mountain bike trail over in Montana called the Hiawatha. I forgot how many miles exactly it is, but you have to make a day trip out of it. You can bike down to the bottom and a bus will bring you back to the top or you can bike both directions. My hubby and I did it a couple of years ago and had a lot of fun! Next time we were thinking we should bring a picnic lunch with us because we were starving once we got done.

  6. I love the scenery of mountain biking. I found I used my arms a LOT more than road biking. So cool that you and Tappan do so many fun things together :)

  10. I love mountain biking! I'm not that great and my fear gene comes out in full force when I get to the technical stuff. And I would not be riding up those stairs. Down, maybe. But definitely not up...apparently I need to practice!

  14. Living here on earth might seem like hell for most, as if groping in the darkness..but always remember that somewhere in the corner there is always a ray of light. There is hope. Faith plays a big role in surviving this game called life.
