Outside Magazine, a national active/outdoors/lifestyle magazine, was one of my little obsessions back in high school when I started dreaming of travels and adventures...
So when I was contacted last Monday to have photos taken of me running around Richmond, I quickly said YES!!
For the photo shoot, I met the talented and award-winning travel + documentary photographer, Michael Hanson (check out his blog HERE) over at Belle Island in Richmond. Check out some of his cool projects and magazine covers...
We ended up taking photos for about 1 or 2 hours.
If you have ever wondered what a running photo shoot is like, just imagine running back and forth a bunch of times in one spot. I was SOAKED in sweat by the end!
But it was SO much fun!!
Here are some of the highlights:
Tappan hung out with us and got a couple cool shots as well.
I learned that to get better running photos, you can lengthen your stride and kick at your butt to make it look like you're moving faster. It was tough work and felt a little unnatural, I wish I'd been able to practice a little more..but I guess I already get plenty of running practice and should know what I'm doing by now haha.
The editor still has to decide which (if any) photos to use in the magazine, so I'll keep you all posted on if I end up being published or not!
If it all works out, my photo will be in the October 2012 issue of Outside Magazine :)
Have you ever had a special experience like this before?

I am seriously chomping at the bit to get my October edition in the mail. No reading, just going to dig through it to find you first :) THIS IS SO COOL!!!!

Congratulations this looks like so much fun and the shots you featured turned out great! I saw a running shoot recently and even though the pictures are fabulous when you see the runner doing more of a slow-motion run and extra long stride it looks funny.
ReplyDeleteI personally love the second and second to last picture!
Thats so cool, what an honor!! Looks like a ton of fun :) Your photos came out awesome, loving the neon shoes!
ReplyDeleteThis is seriously so cool! The pictures are amazing!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures, they show a person so much: I love the fact that you changed your slyle to get a better picture...
ReplyDeleteNow I want you to have a look at the pictures: 1st pic you are running well, yes you are "jumping" down a little step and I can see your foot is going to land flat and under your body, forcing you to run on...
Now look at pictures 3 and 6... your leg is stretched out and your heal is going to hit the groud first!!! Bang, Putting on the breaks and slowing you down!!! (if your knee was bent and your leg was hanging down your foot would hit the ground flat and under you again forcing you to go forwards...
All that said I had a look at other pictures from your blog and in a race you run more efficiently.
How awesome! How did you get picked??
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome!! They look gorgeous. We did a little photo shoot for a photographer to sell as stock photography. it was fun.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing opportunity! I'd be more focused on sucking in my stomach and probably fall over my lengthened stride and end up a big muddy mess!
ReplyDeleteThat is the coolest thing! Those pictures turned out so well, you're a natural. :) They picked an excellent model for it, looks just like something you'd see in a magazine. I really hope you get in it!
ReplyDeleteSO AWESOME! Can't wait to see it in the mag!
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are beautiful and I am so excited and happy for you... well-deserved!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! Congratulations. You look great. :)
