I called this post "Haunted Ghost Tour" for short, but it really should be named "Is it OK to Dress in Costume the Weekend before Halloween?"
I love celebrating holidays, so when I had the opportunity to join in on a Haunted Ghost Tour in Richmond, VA this past weekend, I jumped on it.
But...is it OK to dress up the weekend before Halloween?
I had been out walking in Carytown the previous night and had seen tons of people in costumes, so I assumed that it was semi-socially acceptable to put on a costume.
Of course I dressed up as a neon highlighter and headed on down to meet my friends for the tour. No one else (other than the tour guides) was in costume. Oh well.
We started at the 17th street Farmer's Market and strolled our way around town to the turning basin, the Capitol building, the Governor's Mansion, Monumental Church, and an old slave burial ground.
I've been wanting to do a tour like this for a long time and I was not disappointed. We listened to various scary tales, including the story of how the Governor and 72 other people died in a fire during a theater production at the Monumental Church on December 26th, 1811.

| 2 ghosts in the night. Funny thing is that Tappan was just wearing his normal clothes, but he matched my costume. |
I wish I were as creative as my dear Brittany and had some sort of genius costume idea...but the simplicity of the neon highlighter prevailed :)

I am not really dressing up for Halloween this year. :/ I was a pirate at my costume 5K on Saturday, but I won't dress up on Wednesday or next weekend.
ReplyDeleteLol. I love the highlighter idea. PERFECT for you!! I'm not big into Halloween. I'll be teaching, and that's about it!
