Nokomis Groves

I'm always on the hunt for a delicious frozen treat.

I can't remember the last time I went to a regular ice cream shop...  In the last couple years, I've only eaten frozen treats at self-serve frozen yogurt shops where you can pile all on all the fun toppings that you want and swirl together whatever odd combination of flavors you're in the mood for.

However, this week I fell back in love with a traditional ice cream shop:

NOKOMIS GROVES.
Nokomis Groves is a little 3rd generation mom&pop ice cream shop and citrus/gift store right outside of Venice, Florida.  It's right next to their huge citrus orchard so everything they sell is super fresh and in season.

Their art sculptures and paintings are SO fun, fit right in with the positive atmosphere of the place.
High-five buddy, your ice cream is phenomenal
Tappan pretending to climb up the mural on the wall
They even have a citrus calendar so that you can keep track of when your favorite citrus fruits will be in season and you can have them shipped directly to your home!
I had pineapple and key-lime twist.
Unbelievably delicious!

Tasted so crisp, tart and fresh.
Tappan ate the popular orange-vanilla twist.
Tasted JUST like a creamsicle...
Do you prefer the modern frozen yogurt shops or traditional ice cream?
Usually I'm fro-yo all the way, but Nokomis Groves has made me reconsider...

  1. I have become hooked on Menchies, the self serve yogurt chain. I feel less guilty knowing there's less calories in the yogurt...which leaves me more room to pile on the cookie dough bits!

    1. Yes, any sort of nutritional benefit I get from having yogurt over ice cream is negated by all the toppings I add :)

  2. I am a Yogurtland fan and just like to bury mine in nuts! The ones you and Tappan are eating look pretty amazing though but Florida is too far for me to drive and get one :)

    1. Yes I wish we had Yogurtland in Virginia, I've never tried it, but I hear SO much about it! All those toppings....

Our equivalent in Richmond VA is Yapple and Sweet Frog.

  3. What a fun looking shop! I'm a cheap ice cream eater. I go get it at the store and eat it at home. My favorite is Kroger Brand light ice cream. The death by chocolate is unbelievable!

    1. Yes, usually I do get it from the store too! But sometimes that can be dangerous because a half gallon can disappear for me more quickly than it should!

    1. Haha too funny, I think that may be what is going on...but of course my naive brain chose to believe that it was just a friendly attempt to climb!

  6. Love all the fun pictures. I am not too picky about ice cream vs froyo. I love them both. Gelato is my fav. I ate so much of it in Italy. YUM!

  7. I love froyo, but sometimes traditional ice cream just hits the spot!! I found Pumpkin Spice ice cream at the grocery store and I can't get enough of it! It's also much cheaper and my husband definitely appreciates that :)

  8. how CUTE is that second picture!!
The orange-vanilla twist in the last picture looks SO good!

I do absolutely looooove traditional ice cream...but I have a guilty pleasure for the IKEA fro-yo! haha :)

  9. Ice cream beats anything in my book. We have an amazing homemade ice cream place, the Creole Creamery, and somehow a frozen yogurt place across the street hasn't gone out of business. Don't ask me how. The ice cream is ten billion times better.
