Dear Anonymous Commenter

Dear Anomymous spammy robot commenter,

Don't get me wrong.  I truly love your cousin, the normal "anonymous" commenter who dares to say what is on their mind (and what everyone else is really thinking) behind a veil of anonymity.  I've received a few fabulous anonymous comments in the past and I love reading them on other people's blogs too.

HOWEVER, I can't stand your new SPAMMY ways.

I woke up this morning and found at least 40? of your spammy anonymous comments on my previous post, as Christy so aptly identified:

I wasted precious relaxation time, sitting around deleting your comments:
Hi my loved one?!  Um no.

But most annoying of all, I was forced to change my commenting settings because of you.

Spammy-robot, please stop bombarding my blog with your annoying comments.

OK, thanks!

Sincerely,

(PS to all my real reader friends, I hope the fact that I had to change my commenting settings doesn't make it hard to leave your thoughts behind...now you have to be "registered" to leave a comment.  If this makes it difficult for you to comment, I'll switch back.  But I guess I'll never know because if you can't comment, you can't tell me, oops.  Perhaps I'll just "moderate" my comments for a little while.  Suggestions?!)

  1. I don't understand why people would waste their time to leave comments liek that. I'm sorry you are a target of stupid people. That's one of the feature I like on my wordpress blog, they monitor it and I can delete all comments in queue with one click.

    1. Yeah some dumb robot has been programmed to annoy bloggers all around the world!! I've NEVER had a problem with spam anon robot comments until just now. (maybe one or two here and there, but that's it.)

  2. Btw, leaving a comment with my wordpress log in gave me an error, but worked fine with my google log in.

    1. OK good to know, thanks for telling me!! Sorry to my wordpress buddies, I'll figure out a way to fix this.

  3. It's a spambot of some sort. I got a ton one day then installed askimet (it's some plugin or something?) and that took care of it. Every now and then I find a real comment in the ones that it caught, but I'd say 99% of the real stuff makes it through!

    1. Hmmm I checked it out, but it looks like it's for wordpress only? Are you through wordpress or blogger or self-hosted??

  4. The same thing happened to me too!! I switched to moderating my comments so hopefully it'll stop soon.

    1. Yeah I'll prob try moderating my comments, I don't want to keep anyone from being able to comment! This hasn't ever happened before yesterday (except for a rogue one here and there.)

  5. Same thing happened on my blog too, I was getting the weirdest comments with that kind of link. I had to block anonymous commenting on the blog. It's too bad, since I know it will mean some legit readers who comment as 'anonymous' (haha including my mother, who I'm sure isn't tech savvy enough to set up a Google account!) end up not being able to comment, but I guess that's all you can do!

    1. I agree...I have many legit buddies who comment and do not have an official google or whatever account... Maybe this is just a phase and the robot will shut down and stop being annoying.

  6. I love the way you announced your change. I had to do a switcheroo on my commenting functions too due to spammy robot.

    Have a great day!

    1. Aw thanks! I really do like reading anonymous comments in general, I'll be sad to see them go. Yeah darn spammy robot!!

Hope you have a great day too!

  7. I switched my comments to be approved on posts older than 7 days, so they never get published! I hate the word verification gatekeeper thing and I really would hate to put it on my blog, but might have too!

    1. I was thinking of doing that as well, but the robot hit up my post from just one day ago...

  8. Oh lord! That's hilarious... And not all at the same time :) I always get a kick out of those stupid spam comments but changed my settings to "registered" only.. Sorry anonymous commenters! Ha

  9. Ha! I e been getting extra spam this week too. Just deleted 12 spam comments from the past 24 hours. All odd and with multiple typos or crammed errors, most of which didn't make an ounce of sense.

Really don't want to change my settings, hopefully you've warded them off for now!

    1. I know, very strange how there was this huge influx! The comments (and the timing) makes no sense, I'm sure no one clicks on those dumb links anyway, they're always obviously spam (but have sneaky phrases which I guess could fool some people?)

  10. Dang, look at all those auto correct typos! Sorry!

  11. I have been getting spammed like crazy too- so annoying. You should see this one annonymous comment I got. I saved it because I couldn't believe it. It was all about boycotting American Woman and how nobody should marry us. It was bizarre!

    1. oh my gosh, I agree-- the meanings of the comments are always SO ridiculous!!!!!!!! They make no sense, always some sort of strange theme.

  12. I have a pretty small blog, but I have to moderate all of the comments. Not because of spam, but because people say such crazy things about race and ethnicity. That negative stuff has no place on my blog!

    1. Just checked out your blog, you're adorable (and fast!) Yeah I hate negativity, it has no place on your personal space.

  13. Mr. Anonymous has visited me too. Funny blog!

  14. BAHAHAHA Yep... that same thing happened to me. I always read them because they are so out of control and I feel like they are written by a 5 year old. Hope you have a great weekend gorgeous girl!

  15. Hope you can straighten them out soon! They are so annoying!! 40+ is just ridiculous!!

  16. Yea, the spam comments recently have started to get out of control. I definitely don't get that many, but I probably get 1 every couple days or so. I still have my comments open with no restrictions, but if the anonymous comments keep up with regularity I might have to go to the dreaded word verification comments lol

  17. My spam has gotten out of hand too! Some of them are so crazy. I read some of them outloud to Dave haha. He was like "Really?!"

  18. I have had tons of it lately on both blogs too and some of it pretty pornographic, always with a link. That is the main reason I moderate all my comments. I refuse to allow these people to use my blogs to advertise their links.

  19. Same thing happens whenever I experiment with turning on the anonymous comments. So I turned it off. I never got any legit anonymous comments, and people can post with openID so I figure that's enough. Maybe not???

  20. Uhh! I am dealing with the same issue! I think it's time to change my settings, but I don't want to make it a pain for people to comment.
