I was feeling adventurous after my long run on Saturday morning so I decided to join Tappan and some of his friends for a game of Paintball.
I'd never played before and I didn't know what to expect...but I thought it'd be fun and might even serve as a good "shake out" for my legs after my long run! I didn't want to get tight sitting on my couch all day.
I got all dressed up-- Tappan told me to wear dark clothes, so I showed up looking like a ninja.
We had a group of 12 people and I was not the only novice in the group (Tappan's only played a handful of times and it'd probably been a decade since his last time) so I didn't feel completely like an outsider.
We worked together and came up with strategies and actually won a few times versus some more experienced teams.
It was all fun and games until a VERY inconsiderate person shot me in the quad/IT band area from about 2 feet away. For those of you who don't know the rules, that is completely NOT allowed.
It HURT.
Fortunately it was the end of the day so I was able to get home and ice it relatively quickly.
Here are the stages of healing:
It still is uncomfortable if I touch the spot, but thank goodness it didn't bother me during my runs on Sunday and Monday...In that case I'd be pretty angry, haha :)
Despite the giant bruise, I ended up having an enjoyable time and someone on the opposing team even said I was one of the "fiercest ones" out there, which I took as a compliment!
Have you ever played paintball?
Ordinarily I would dislike the idea of paintball (i.e. getting hit), but I like stepping outside of my comfort zone sometimes and I certainly am glad that I did this time! Sadly, I don't think I'll be back again though, it was a little traumatizing to get hit so hard at such a short distance. But more importantly, the lack of respect from the opposing players was enough to turn me off from it.

Never played paintball, pretty much because I'm scared of getting bruises! You are a champ!
ReplyDeleteI haven't played in years. That bruise looks painful, but also very pretty :)
ReplyDeleteOuch! That looks really painful. I hope you heal up soon! I've never been paintballing and seeing that bruise makes me wonder if I ever want to.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that you had fun, but ouch. You poor thing! I am such a baby when it comes to bruises. Probably why I never go paint balling. I am sure that my husband would get me good!
ReplyDeleteI've never wanted to play paintball for your painful reason above :( hope you feel better soon- that looks painful!
ReplyDeleteAhhh I got grounded in high school for playing paintball with friends when I wasn't allowed to. i ended up getting shot in the head and mouth and swallowed a shell of a paintball. I still don't know how it happened. My first and last attempt at being cool with a paintball gun was when I was 14.
ReplyDeleteI know this isn't the proper response, but that bruise looks freaking cool!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, that bruise is crazy! And kind of pretty...is that weird? I've heard paintball can hurt, and I definitely wouldn't want to be shot from two feet away!
ReplyDeleteI have the same (im)proper response as Colorado Gal... that bruise looks way cool!!
ReplyDeleteI myself have never played paintball. My reluctance can be traced back to the episode of Daria when they go to play paintball as a class field trip and everyone keeps saying "Hey! Those paint ball thingies hurt!"
OUCH, that looks painful!!
ReplyDeleteI used to play paintball with my brothers a few years ago and it was always fun but left me jumpy! Haha
I play paintball quite often, and I gotta say... Killer Bruise!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness, how rude! a friend of mine got shot in the mouth with one when we were younger and he had braces, it was not pretty!
ReplyDeletelol on getting hit at close range! Yea, that has happened to me too, a guy came out of nowhere and gunned me down with at least a couple shots that were super close. Definitely not within the rules, since you are not supposed to shoot anyone that close due to safety reasons. Paintball is a fun game, though yea gotta cover up all body parts in case you get shot somewhere! And I've definitely seen worse bruises before.
ReplyDeleteYou said you are a big tennis fan, I posted like 100 tennis photos if you want to get tennis overload lol
OUCH! I have never played, but my husband often played when he was getting his MBA. I would love to play sometime, but it seems that it is just a "guy" thing around my area. Women go to the spa. Boo!! I love the spa, but sometimes I want to do paint ball, laser tag, sporting events also!!
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to play!!! It looks like a lot of fun if you have a big group like that. And seriously, what a douche! Why did that person do that?!? Hope it heals soon girl! xoxo
ReplyDeleteOuch, hope your bruise is gone by now. Never did paintball, too scared of the pain :-)
ReplyDeleteOh paintball welts! Gotta love them :) I got a crazy one on my neck the first time I went and had to tell people, "I SWEAR! It is NOT a hickey!" We got every year with my work :) I organize the event so I can get back at my coworkers ;)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a blast!!
