ReplyDeleteI LOVE your neon racing...if you scroll down on my blog to 2 weeks ago, I ran a half in which I raced in the brightest, ugliest tank ever so my boyfriend could spot me. I just brought a neon pink shirt for my next race. It's the way to do it! You should do a post on where you get all that neon!
i listen to lots of books on tape also!
ReplyDeletebut mine are mostly girly romantic chick lit books. but it keeps me running!
I love the books on tape idea! I'll definitely have to check that out next time I go for a run. Where do you usually get your books?
ReplyDeletei totally just started today to do this and i love love love it! i love this page. of course you would have it you are amazing. thanks! and you had exactly the books i was looking for
ReplyDeleteBetween you and Running off the Reeses, I think I need to give the books on tape-while running a try!
ReplyDeleteI love that you read books on tape while you run! Here's a recommendation: "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance"! ~B.E.L.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog and love it! I listen to books on tape while running for the same reason, i just can't make a good playlist and books cover so much time!
ReplyDeleteOoh, add 'Stiff' to that list - only a nurse would understand.
ReplyDeletegreat page...now that I'm a long distance runner and all I'm going to do this for sure :D love that you have this page! xoxo
ReplyDeleteYou should check out any book by Atul Gwande. "Better" and "Checklist Manifesto" are both great. He's almost like the Malcolm Gladwell.
ReplyDeleteI've just started doing the audiobook/podcast thing and it really makes runs go by way faster! Stealing some of these
ReplyDeleteI LOVE listening to music when I run, but when I'm on the treadmill, sometimes that's not enough! I love listening to Podcasts, because it really does make the run go by so easily! I've listened to a few books, I just normally forget to download them, haha. In fact, I LOVE those Malcolm Gladwell books :) He's one of my favorite authors! Have you listened to his TED talks? SO good!
ReplyDeleteI've read most of the same books by/about athletes.
ReplyDeleteYou should listen to "In the Water They Can't See You Cry: A Memoir" by Amanda Beard. I really enjoyed it!
thanks for the suggestion! I just added it to my list of books to try :)
DeleteI am a nerd to my very core and I have all 7 Harry Potter books on my iPod and I listen to them while I run and everyone makes fun of me!! So glad to see someone else who does the same! AND have you ever run the Richmond Marathon in november? I'm thinking of adding it to my list...
ReplyDeleteHi! All of my friends/family tease me about listening (almost exclusively) to This American Life while I run, but I like the idea of books on tape too. Have you read Born to Run? I found it really motivational to my running, and I didn't even read/listen to it while running! Also, if you liked Into Thin Air, have you read Into the Wild?
ReplyDeleteOh I'll have to try This American Life! You get that on iTunes?
DeleteI've read most of Born to Run but wasn't able to make it all the way through.
I LOVED Into the Wild, that book was big for me back in highschool.
Glad to have found a fellow runner who appreciates listening to words instead of music sometimes!
I also prefer listening to books and podcasts while running instead of music. My favorite audiobooks from the past year include Wild by Cheryl Strayed, I Thought It Was Just Me by Brene Brown, and the Immortal Life of Henriet Lacks by Rebecca Skloot.
ReplyDeleteAnd, more props for NPR content - I love This American Life while running and also Wait! Wait! Don't Tell Me!
Alicia, thanks for the suggestions!! I'll have to check them out. I stopped off at the library to get some water from the water fountain during my run and I saw that they're now letting us download audiobooks for free, I can't wait to get some new ones!
